Participation

Seattle Rock Orchestra offers two levels of participation: paid performance opportunities in Seattle Rock Orchestra, our professional ensemble, as well as SRO Social Club, our volunteer community orchestra. An informal audition is required for placement in either ensemble.

Seattle Rock Orchestra performs all over the state of Washington, with shows occurring anywhere from once every two months, to several engagements a month. One or two rehearsals occur in the days before any given performance. Most performances at Seattle's Moore Theatre utilize a larger orchestra with pairs of winds and brass, and a string section of 6.5.4.3.1. Out of town shows utilize a chamber orchestra with solo winds and brass, and a string section of 2.2.2.1.
Performers are invited to perform based on call list placement,  which is determined by audition results.  Musicians placed on our pro ensemble call list may also be eligible for chamber music work.
Participation
is limited to adults age 21 and older.

SRO Social Club performs three shows each concert season, with all performances occurring within the city of Seattle. Rehearsals are conducted weekly on Wednesday evenings, typically beginning four weeks before each concert date. A 'high school' ability level or above is recommended for Social Club performers. To help cover production costs not covered by ticket sales, Social Club participants each pay a nominal participation fee per each concert. Participation is limited to adults age 21 and older.

Young musicians and beginning adult players fret not, we are currently developing programs to serve you too! Stay tuned for details. For our current offerings for youth, please visit our Summer Intensive page.

Auditions

Auditions are a highly informal affair, and comprise of a five to ten minute performance of prepared excerpts.

Vocalists interested in featured guest artist opportunities must include links to live performance videos, and studio recordings if available. Typically, featured vocalist opportunities are awarded only to strong sheet music readers.

Auditions are open to all winds, brass, strings (including harp), vocalists who read, and orchestral percussionists. Typically choir participants in SRO Social Club are not required to audition. SRO is not currently auditioning for guitar or electric bass roles.

Audition requests are processed only once or twice a year, and may not receive a response for several weeks or months. Thank you in advance for your patience!
